A kitchen exhaust makes sure to clean the atmosphere of your kitchen and throw the smoke out of your kitchen that is during the cooking process. But this doesn’t mean that you have to hire any professional help for that. You can easily install an exhaust fan in your kitchen by yourself. Here we have come up with the easiest methods to guide you with how to install an exhaust fan in the kitchen.
But there is one thing that you need to consider; the installation of an exhaust varies with the type of exhaust being installed. This variation in installation methods is actually due to the size and attachments of the new exhaust that you plan to install. In this article, we will focus on the installation of two main exhaust fan types; ductless and ducted fans. Let’s start with the process now.
Ducted exhaust
A ducted exhaust works to throw out the impure air from your kitchen to the outside of your home. The best thing about ducted exhausts is that they also dehumidify the air and remove the moisture content. But a major drawback of ducted exhausts is that you can install them only at limited locations as they have to throw out the air from the kitchen.
Buying guide
Installation of ducted exhaust fan
- Take the measurements of the pipe length that you have to connect to the outside of your home.
- See the attachment site of the pipe at the back of the exhaust. It is either directly at the center point or slightly raised from it.
- Cut your wall according to the measurement of the range hood as given in the user guide using a drill.
- Cut out the pipe attachment area on the wall, too, using the measurements that you have taken.
- Attach electrical wiring to the range hood and install the mounting using mounting screws. Make sure the power supply is off at the moment.
- Use aluminum tape to tape the duct pipes.
- Your ductless exhaust has been successfully installed now.
- Turn on the power supply and check.
- Ductless exhaust fan
Ductless exhaust fans are the advanced type of exhausts that do not throw the air outside the home. These exhausts have filters installed to purify the air. Ductless exhausts build a cycle of air purification within your kitchen environment. But there also are drawbacks to ductless exhausts. A major drawback is that you have to replace them every year.
Installation of ductless exhaust fans
- Above your cooking stove, mark the center point on the wall.
- Build the wiring connection with the exhaust from the backside from where the knock-out plug is removed. Make sure that the power supply is off.
- Next is to install the mounting by fixing it with the mounting screws.
- Install filters in your ductless exhaust fan, and you are all done.
Now that you have seen how to install an exhaust fan in the kitchen, you must have realized that it is not that challenging. You just need to be careful with the measurements and connections to make sure that everything is done perfectly.
